Background

Since the escalation of the war in Ukraine in 2022, around 1.3 million Ukrainians have fled to Germany, including a high proportion of women and children. Despite intensive efforts to support integration, many refugees have only limited access to psychosocial support. At the same time, challenges remain in terms of social participation and inclusion, particularly for vulnerable groups.

The Project

OlamAid and ZWST are addressing this situation with targeted iniatives for psychosocial support, empowerment, and participation to ensure the sustainable integration of refugees into society. The project consists of three key components:

  1. Intercultural Psychosocial Support: Individual counselling, group sessions and art therapy for stress management and emotional stabilization.
  2. Empowerment and social participation: Coaching and empowerment programmes promote leadership skills. In leadership groups, refugees take responsibility, initiate projects and volunteer for the host community and other refugees.
  3. Psychosocial Capacity Building: Training and supervision for volunteers and professionals working with refugees to support effective psychosocial support and prevent overburdening.
